Tully River White Water Rafting
A higher level rafting adventure that takes things to the next step.A Challenging Rafting Adventure from Cairns
Travel time from Cairns: 2 Hours
Rapid Grades: 4
Widely considered one of the best white water rafting rivers in both Australia and New Zealand, the Tully River takes the rafting experience to the next step from the other Cairns-area rivers with an even more challenging adventure experience that focuses on adrenaline rather than relaxing, scenic exploration outings.
While it’s a fair trek from Cairns, it’s a must for those who have rafting experience and are looking to put their skills into practice, or those who may be beginners who are confident on the water and not afraid to go through some substantial bumps and splashes. The choice is typically offered to guests as to which aspect of the river they want to face – there are sections that are more scenic in nature and consist of only average sections of whitewater, while “extreme” experiences include extra challenges in addition to plain rafting such as thrashing water, rock jumping, rapid swimming and raft surfing.
Those who aren’t feeling especially confident can feel comforted by the fact that they will always be accompanied by a highly-trained river guide who will teach you the correct techniques during the day and who will share with you the history and wonders of the magnificent landscape that surrounds the Tully River along the quieter sections of water.
Rafting experiences on the Tully River are available all-year-round due to the warm Cairns climate which averages 25 degrees in the winter to 33 degrees in the summer and is thus far more comfortable during the colder months than many other rafting destinations – and the option for free spray jackets offered to those who are especially prone to feeling the cold.
